  在万圣前台随手买的，没想到是这样好的一本书，颇有相见恨晚的感觉（上科哲的时候怎么没发现？）。非常全面而清晰地介绍了科学革命的各个方面，是极佳的导论。作者附上的术语表和300余部的推荐点评书单，使得这本书更加友好，几乎是在邀请读者一起参与到研究之中（我都有些心动了）。

  题目太大这么一本不到300页的书很难系统的讲明白，何况前面有很多内容实际上是北京城建史，所以全都是点到为止。比较感兴趣的是最后一部分的长期保护规划，一次明确的看到西边屏风楼要拆掉的事。如果真的能尽快实现就好了。不过这个计划貌似是包括在截至到2020年的长期规划中，所以应该还不确定吧。如果能拆掉屏风楼且开放所有城墙算得上是故宫里程碑式的进步了。

• On Simplicity

  A Single Shard inspires me to ponder over what is a good book both as a reader and as someone who aspires to be a writer for young adults. Linda's exotic work is a great embodiment of simplicity, spiritual connections, and a great truth in life.

  A single shard is all you need to show what kind of skills, heart and soul one has to put behind one's works of art and life. Such a truth is reflected in the title and plot of this book and can also be extended to all kinds of professions and to all walks of life. Tree-ear learns about this in the format of pottery-making and in his adventure to deliver his master's precious works to the royal commissioner in Songdo. Even though the vases he carried were shattered to pieces of shards, his reading of the world has a different fate. By carrying only one piece of the shard of the fine vase, he manages to convince the commissioner that the quality of the whole work is unrivaled in that era. This process costs him a friend and two precious vases, but wins him a family, a new name, and more importantly a new reading in the profession of the potters and the world.

  As a reader, I share Tree-ear's epiphany as his story unravels in the book. As someone who has taught literature and aspires to be a writer in the future, another worthy inspiration I've gleaned from Linda's book is also resounding. A good writer is not only a good story-teller. He or she would integrate his or her reading of the things into and more creatively, behind the words in black and white. This language created by human beings has its own limitations, thus failing to convey ineffable meanings of its creator on many occasions. So casually and deliberately planting these unspeakable truths here and there becomes the most difficult creative job for a writer. Hopefully, one day, I could seek some self-satisfaction in this demanding yet rewarding undertaking as a writer.
